At BEDI, our love for the planet runs deep— and that love extends especially to our oceans. Today is World Oceans Day, a day that encourages us to zoom in on one of the most fragile and vital ecosystems on Earth. Covering over 70% of our planet, oceans regulate climate, support biodiversity, and provide livelihoods for millions. But they are also under immense pressure—from plastic pollution to overfishing.
As we celebrate World Oceans Day, we’re proud to highlight the ways our small brand contributes to cleaner, healthier marine ecosystems.
Using what we already have
Many of our pieces begin with a unique source: abandoned fishing nets pulled from our oceans.
Many of our designs use ECONYL®, a revolutionary material made in Italy by Aquafil, crafted from regenerated nylon sourced from fishing nets, carpets, and other pre-consumer waste. These materials are collected from a variety of sources, then cleaned and transformed into durable, high-performance fabric.
Unlike conventional nylon, which depends on fossil fuels and water-intensive processes, ECONYL®:
-
Removes ocean waste, rather than creating it
-
Reduces CO2 emissions by 65,100 tons per 10,000 tons produced
-
Saves 70,000 barrels of crude oil per 10,000 tons produced
-
Uses 98% less water compared to virgin nylon
A Material Designed to Last
Our commitment to sustainability goes far beyond using recycled materials. Every BEDI piece is designed to last a lifetime, both in form and function. With timeless, Japandi-inspired aesthetics, our outerwear and bags are made to transcend trends—pieces you’ll reach for year after year. Built with rugged yet refined construction, they’re crafted to meet the demands of Canadian winters and everyday life alike. And with our lifetime guarantee, you can trust that if a zipper breaks in ten—or even twenty—years, we’ll repair it, free of charge. So you can be confident your BEDI piece will never end up in landfill.
Circular by Design: Our “Second Life” Program
If your style evolves or you need a different size, our Second Life program ensures your original piece won’t go to waste. Simply send it back to us, and you’ll receive 25% credit toward a new item of equal or greater value. We’ll carefully refurbish the returned product, relist it at a discount, and give it a new life.
This initiative helps close the loop, supporting a more circular, responsible approach to fashion.
One Order = One Pound of Plastic Removed
And for two days only: One Order = Double the amount of plastic removed
We’re also proud to partner with 4Ocean, a global leader in ocean conservation. For every BEDI order over $100, one pound of plastic is removed from the world’s oceans, rivers, and coastlines—a fully traceable effort powered by 4Ocean’s rigorous cleanup operations. To date, the BEDI community has helped remove 598 pounds of plastic from marine environments.
And in honour of World Oceans Day, we’re doubling our impact. Now until Tuesday June 10th at midnight, every order over $100 will remove two pounds of plastic—at no extra cost to you.
Local Actions, Global Impact
From upcycled materials to low-water manufacturing and biodegradable cleaning supplies, sustainability touches every part of our process.
We're a small team, but we believe small, consistent steps can lead to real change. Thank you for being part of it!
