We’ve been spending more time outside lately, walking, getting fresh air, and clearing our heads a bit.
When you spend time in nature, you start to notice the same colours again and again, especially in winter.
Over time, these are the colours we’ve been drawn to. Not trends based on movie releases or tiktok obsessions, but the ones that exist around us. When making something timeless, we take our cues from nature, the most enduring of all.
Black
Inspired by the night sky.
Everything feels a bit sharper on a cold, clear winter night . The air is crisp, the quiet is calming, and the stars feel especially bright.
Black carries that same clarity. It’s simple, but never empty. There’s depth to it, especially in the right light.
Classic for a reason, it’s also the colour many of us gravitate towards when we want an easy go-to piece in our wardrobe. It pairs well with pretty much anything, and always looks professional (particularly when paired with our careful tailoring.)
Graphite
Inspired by the morning mist.
Especially in spring and fall, our island city of Montreal is prone to misty mornings. The mist softens everything– the buildings, the light, and the feel of the day.
For us, our graphite hue offers a similar versatile option as black, but like a misty morning, it’s softened. Woven with recycled nylon that catches the light ever-so-subtly, the subtle colour shifts in our fabric are most evident in graphite. It’s a truly unique and eye-catching hue that is anything but “just another grey”.
Navy
Inspired by the ocean.
The ocean has always been a source of perspective for us. Vast, beautiful and powerful, it is also incredibly important from an environmental perspective.
Which is why, in addition to using predominately recycled materials, we remove one pound of plastic from the ocean for every order over $100. Like drops of water, each small bit adds up over time, and we have now removed over 1200lbs of plastic from our oceans through this collaboration.
Our navy material reflects that same depth. It’s familiar, easy to wear, but never flat. There’s always a sense of movement to it, even when it looks still.
Evergreen
Inspired by the forest.
We spend a lot of time walking in the forest. Especially in winter, when everything is quieter, there’s something calming about walking through a forest, breathing the fresh air, and seeing the evergreen trees against the snow.
Our evergreen colour was inspired by the evergreen trees that bring us a little richness and colour amidst the cool, grey months of winter. When the other vegetation is dormant and brown, the evergreen trees offer a welcome bit of colour.
Just like the trees it’s named for, our evergreen hue offers a little pop of colour that feels timeless and grounding. It evades trends and is true to its name– “evergreen”
Plum
Inspired by local fruits.
The Mount Royal plum is a cold-hardy variety grown here in Quebec, with a rich blue-ish purple hue that feels both decadent and classic.
Our plum shade is this year’s limited edition colour. Each year we offer a small run of a colour that is outside our core collection, but still feels true to our timeless style. We did a very limited run of this plum hue last year, and there was such high demand we decided to offer it again this year.
Plum is a gorgeous, timeless shade for a winter coat, for those who desire a little more colour.
We are currently making a few more plum pieces in both our ORSOLA and KIRSI styles. This small batch is available for preorder, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
The more time we spend outside, the more we’re inspired. So it’s maybe no surprise that the colours we gravitate to are part of our winter landscape. We’re just translating them into something you can wear every day.
