F.A.Q.

Your most common questions, answered. If you don't see your question below, email us anytime at contact@bedistudios.com — we're here to help!

It doesn't get as cold as -30°C here — will this be too warm for me?

Not at all. While our coats can handle extreme cold (down to -30°C), they’re designed to be versatile enough for everyday wear. Most people comfortably wear them from around +10°C to deep winter temps, making them a solid three-season option.

What makes that possible? A few things:

Lightweight synthetic insulation (not down), which means no puffball bulk and no overheating indoors or on mild days.

A windproof ballistic nylon shell, so wind doesn't cut through. This allows us use less insulation overall, while still keeping you warm when you need it.

Thoughtful design that traps warmth without trapping sweat.

Is the insulation down?

Nope! We use a lightweight, high-performance synthetic insulation called Isosoft, which is cruelty-free and retains warmth—even after multiple washes. You can read more about it here.

Is it waterproof?

Our winter coats are highly water-resistant and windproof, perfect for snow, wet snow, and drizzly days.

It is technically "water-resistant", not "waterproof" because the seams aren’t sealed. However, the exterior is made from ballistic nylon—a super tightly woven, abrasion-resistant fabric that repels water well. There’s also a thin water-resistant membrane underneath for extra protection.

Water will bead off at first, and even in steady rain it holds up impressively. Because the seams aren’t sealed, in a long, steady downpour, some moisture can eventually work its way in (we’re talking hours, not minutes).

Unlike down, the synthetic insulation stays warm even when wet and doesn’t get heavy or soggy. And there’s no chemical waterproof coating—just smart, durable materials doing the work.

Looking for full waterproof protection? Check out our MONSOON raincoat—it’s fully seam-sealed and made for the big storms.

Can I wash my coat?

Yes! The coat is machine washable. We just recommend air drying—it takes about a day. Please skip the dryer (it doesn’t like the heat).

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes! We're very proud to offer a Lifetime Guarantee on all our coats and bags. Your coat is covered for life against any manufacturer defects. That means that 20 years from now, if your zipper breaks, or a seam pops, we’ll get it fixed for you.

What’snotcovered under the warranty? We don’t cover accidental damage (say, if you lay it on a hot barbecue or back over it with your car). But accidents happen! If you need a repair, send us an email— we want you to be able to continue enjoying your coat, and we can usually repair it for a small fee.

How do I choose my size?

If you love a chunky knit sweater in the winter, we suggest sizing up for wiggle room— especially in the shoulders and arms. Check ourSize Guide for detailed measurements, and if you're still not sure, email us anytime at contact@bedistudios.com — we're happy to help!

What’s your return policy?

You have 45 days to return or exchange your coat. You can wear it out (we want you to feel confident in it!), but it must come back in good condition— no stains or damage. If it’s returned dirty, we may have to reject the return. Return shipping is not covered.

It’s great, very warm and feels well made. I don’t love the size of the hood but I knew that going in

Thanks so much for your kind words Martin! It's really nice to hear that you're enjoying your new ANSEL coat, and that you find it warm and well-made.
You may already know this, but just in case, the hood does have some hidden toggles near the chin which will make it a bit smaller!
Hope you’ll enjoy a cozy rest of the winter in your new coat :)

With gratitude,

The BEDI Team

I adore my sleek, toasty Ansel jacket!

After discovering Inder Bedi’s fashion line at the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago, I fell in love with his chic, stylish, toasty Ansel Bomber jacket. Right then and there I knew it would be my next Winter coat. My mom purchased it for me this Christmas and am so grateful she did. This coat is absolutely perfect for brutal, subzero Midwestern weather. I cannot speak more highly of this piece. I imagine it will be one of many pieces that I purchase from BEDI. 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

Thank you so much for this incredibly kind review Nadia! It’s so nice to hear that you’re loving your new ANSEL coat, and that it’s keeping you toasty even in the subzero Midwestern temperatures. How sweet of your mom to get it for you for Christmas!
Renegade Craft Fair was a new experience for us this year, and we didn’t think anything know what to expect, but it was such a joy to meet people like you who really “get” and love our small brand! Hope to see you again on one of our many visits to Chicago :)

Wishing you many cozy winters in your new coat!
With gratitude,
The BEDI Team

Grateful coat owner

I purchased the Ansel jacket for my husband for Christmas so he wouldn’t freeze in winter weather and in particular when we travelled to Whitehorse. He is very happy with his Christmas gift!! He didn’t think it possible to feel anything but “cold to freezing” in Whitehorse. He reported he was totally comfortable and despite it being -55, -30 (!!! 😲) we walked 15-20 mins each way to go to dinners, walk about Whitehorse, tour a nature reserve, pose for photos outdoors! He is not a person who enjoys cold weather or wearing hoods or heavy jackets yet found this jacket light weight and comfortable and the hood a lifesaver! When the hood is not being used it’s not bothersome which is a huge bonus for my husband to continue to wear this awesome jacket! He also reports he liked the length of it as it is comfortable when sitting and doesn’t ride up. Added thumbs up - size and security of pockets. The Ansel fits him perfectly. He’s 5’10” and has a large.

Also worth noting, BEDI staff member Ellen has been utterly FANTASTIC in discussing purchases, answering questions and responding to emails! We are very Impressed with this passionate, sustainably minded, ethical Canadian company! :)

Thank you for this lovely review Catherine! We're so happy your husband loves his new ANSEL! I admit I was a bit nervous the ANSEL wouldn't be warm enough for Whitehorse because of the length, so it's really nice to hear that he was warm and cozy, and likes the length! Thank you also for sharing his height and the size he got-- that's such a helpful reference for others!

Last but not least, you are so incredibly sweet for this shout out! You can probably tell from the writing style that it's Ellen responding to these reviews haha. It has been an absolute pleasure emailing with you. I was SO excited for you to take your coats to Whitehorse-- I'm so happy that they kept you warm and cozy and happy!

With hugs and gratitude from Montreal,
Ellen (and the rest of the BEDI team!)

Excellent products and service

My husband and I love our recently purchased coats! Excellent protection in rain and snow. Storm cuffs keep out snow when clearing cars and the fit allows full mobility when shovelling. Great for walking the dog or heading to the office.
Thank you Bedi for excellent value and workmanship. A small detail for your consideration…the flap that covers the zipper inside could be a quarter inch wider to lock it in place better.
For future models, maybe a rich brown colour? Also, incorporating reflective materials for greater visibility would be splendid and for people who already have their coats, perhaps an accessory that has the reflective properties?
Keep up the great work and congratulations on your new B corp certification!!
Michelle

Thank you so much for your kind words Michelle! It's so nice to hear both you and your husband are loving your coats, and we love hearing about the little details that are standing out to you!
Thank you also for the feedback on the inner zipper flap-- it's a good suggestion, and I've passed it along to our designer! I'll also suggest a brown colour-- I've personally been loving the brown crewneck this year, so a rich brown coat would tie in nicely!
We've also heard from a few people that a reflective element would be nice to have! We've had some trouble finding a reflective detail material that meets our high standards for durability and longevity, but we are looking into ways to incorporate it as an optional accessory!
We are so appreciative of your support and kind words-- it means the world to us! Hope you're staying cozy during this chilly weather!
With Gratitude,
The BEDI Team
